OHP Co-Curricular Experiences
Student Senate
I applied to be in Student Senate in the Spring of 2019 and chose the International Affairs Commission because I have always loved learning about other cultures. Plus, I would be studying abroad in Florence, Italy that upcoming summer and had participated in a Danish cultural exchange program in high school, so I had some experience. I quickly started to think more about the students I was representing rather than my own personal beliefs and made sure to vote during senate meetings with that mindset. The next year I became the Vice Commissioner.
Accomplishments: community service, attended International Women's Coffee Hour, tabled so that our constituents could get to know us, participated in the Global Language Partner cultural exchange, attended International Student Union meetings, volunteered at the International Dinner hosted by ISU, hosted International Game Night, collaborated with the Environmental Affairs Commission to table about Fair Trade (partnering with Donkey Coffee), and attended the International Awards Gala.

International Affairs Commission
2019-20
I became the vice commissioner in the Fall of 2019, and we made it our mission to try and bridge the social gap between international and domestic students at OU.

Sigma Tau Delta

I was accepted into Ohio University's chapter of Sigma Tau Delta towards the end of Spring 2019 but didn't participate in earnest until Fall. In the beginning, I was introduced to some new literature through read-a-thons and I learned a little bit more about the English department at Ohio University. I also met some great friends with similar interests, mostly regarding books, plays, and poetry. The next year I became the treasurer of the organization, which was a position that came with quite the learning curve because the prior executives whom all graduated left us no information on how to do our jobs. The president and I decided to create a document that explains club processes in detail so that the next exec board would have something to guide them. This proved to be a great idea because the next year I was elected president and referred to the document often.
Accomplishments: became treasurer, started a semesterly popcorn story activity, attended Sigma Tau Delta's 2021 annual convention virtually, became president, ran meetings, programmed activities, grew chapter membership from 5 to 19 (then to 21), nominated for a leadership award
Learning Community Leader

First-year students at Ohio University will generally take part in the Learning Community program during their first semester. They are grouped with other students within their major and they take three general education classes together that are required for graduation. As the Learning Community leader, I mentored these freshmen and introduced them to life on campus. Job requirements included weekly meetings with the LC instructor, planning and attending activities for the learning community, aiding the professor during class, and hosting study sessions. I was an LCL three years consecutively. Pictured here is one of my first students dressed up for the annual Athens Halloween parade called "Honey for the Heart" which was hosted by a local business called Passion Works Studio.
Writing Commons Tutor
Tutoring with the AAC Student Writing Center allowed me to interact with OU students from all walks of life and to discuss the ins and outs of my favorite subject: writing! I especially loved working with students who had learned English as a second language because they asked great questions and were motivated to master the language. But I enjoyed helping all students build confidence in their writing skills. I also discovered that most students are better at writing than they initially believe. Along with tutoring at the Student Writing Center, I worked for the Academic Achievement Center social media team and eventually became a lead tutor, which meant that I was teaching new tutors how to do their jobs effectively and giving veteran tutors refresher tips.

New Ohio Review
New Ohio Review is a national literary journal produced by Ohio University’s Creative Writing Program. I became an editorial associate intern for them during the spring of 2019 and continued until the fall of 2021. Mostly, I was bolstering their website's digital archives, specifically issues 2, 6, 28, and 29. Duties for these projects included drafting previously published pieces, finding art to pair with them, formatting them correctly, and reaching out to authors for permissions. Some of my own art and photography have ended up in various posts. I would also read through submissions and flag ones that I thought fit our caliber and aesthetic, then copyedit manuscripts of complete issues. I also co-edited the 2021 Winter Exclusive; I was in charge of finding an order for the pieces to go and picking photography to pair with them. It was a wonderful two years of editing experience, and I loved every second of it.
OHP Peer Mentorship Program
I chose to pursue this experience because this is a program that I was hoping would surface after my first year as an OHP student. Then some students in the cohort after me actually created it, and I was super excited to get involved. I had a lot of fun with my mentee, although we were strictly online due to COVID-19. We talked about OHP, the different pathways and what they could offer her, and how things she was already involved in fit those categories. She became incredibly confident over the course of the year and I watched as she made Ohio University her own.
